URKNÄLLE IM ERDGESCHOSS
The performative installation project by JA! (Julia Neuenhausen and Astrid Menze) begins with a pile of strange, scattered everyday remnants in the middle of a marked ‘battlefield’ in the shop at Harzerstrasse 91. The two artists spread out the found objects from their collection around them, which consist of remnants of our throwaway society. Touching, grasping, sorting and spreading them out serves to register and formally organise them. Both the artists and the audience familiarise themselves with the wondrous material.
As soon as the jumble is organised, the second act begins. The two artists begin a game of object ping-pong at a mini work table in the midst of the hodgepodge. The only rule: don’t think! Wordlessly and intuitively, different, explosively developing compositions are created within the working area.
Depending on the state of the day and the collection of objects, the performance ends after mutual agreement.
‘Urknälle im Erdgeschoss’ is based on a collection of lost or discarded objects found in the streets of Berlin. Each object is a cultural relic with its own story. We collected them for their beauty and inherent potential, just before they would have disappeared forever.
